The content that is broadcast on television is always evolving. People have been using cable providers for their televisions for a significant number of years now in order to ensure that they have access to the highest quality material. Despite this, the model is currently in the process of being gradually phased out as a result of recent technological advancements. 


There are a number of streaming services that have become extremely successful in the home entertainment business, and this pattern appears to be continuing. It is possible that the traditional cable business model is experiencing further upheaval as a result of the introduction of internet protocol television, more commonly known as IPTV. Because this is the user interface that the consumer interacts with, it is imperative that it give an uncomplicated and straightforward path to the content that the client is looking for. 

In most cases, this takes the form of an EPG, which stands for electronic programme guide; however, it could also be far more interactive, with features such as picture in picture or search functionality based on the titles of programmes, performers, or categories. This is a rather simplistic view of how an IPTV service operates, and naturally there will be differences in the various ways in which IPTV provider function. However, the author has hoped that by pointing out the fundamentals of IPTV and clearing up the process for readers, any confusion that may have been caused will be alleviated.
